Preamble

"We, mothers, wives, widows, sisters and half-sisters, daughters, foster daughters, grand-mothers and grand-daughters, who are citizens of the United States of America, not less than sixteen (16) years of age, and foster mothers and sisters, who are citizens of the United States of America, and who were in the status of foster mother or sister before the service was rendered, of deceased or honorably discharged officers, or enlisted men, who are citizens of the United States of America, and who have served in the Armed Forces of the United States of America, whose service therein entitled him to a Campaign Badge issued by the Government of the United States of America as specified by the laws governing eligibility in the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, female members of the Armed Forces of the United States, who are citizens of the United States of America and who have had foreign service in time of war or during a campaign or expedition of the Armed Forces of the United States of America for which service, a campaign badge has been authorized, and who are in possession of or entitled to an honorable discharge, under authority of a charter duly granted by the National Convention of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, or their mothers, sisters or daughters, do unite to establish a permanent organization.

Authorization

"Be It Known That, Pursuant to the Charter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, and under authority of the National Convention, we hereby establish an association to be known as the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. Such association shall consist of a National Organization to be known as the National Convention of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States and subordinate organizations to be known as Auxiliaries to such posts of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States as shall approve the same, and shall be subject to the authority of the National ConVention of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States and under the control and supervision of the Commander-in-Chief and the National Council of Administration."

Objectives

The objectives of this organization shall be fraternal, patriotic, historical and educational; to assist the Posts and members thereof of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, and its own members whenever possible; to maintain true allegiance to the Government of the United States of America and fidelity to its Constitution and Laws; to foster true patriotism; to maintain and extend the institutions of American freedom and equal rights and justice to all men and women; and to preserve and defend the United States of America from all her enemies whomsoever.

Eligiblity for Membership

Wives, widows, mothers, foster and stepmothers (who have performed the duties of parent), grandmothers, daughters, granddaughters, foster and stepdaughters who attained that status prior to age sixteen and for whom the duties of parent were performed), sisters, half sisters, foster and stepsisters (who attained that status prior to age sixteen) of persons who were or are eligible for membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. Authorization is shown on the veteran's separation document.

Women eligible for membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States shall be eligible for dual membership in the Ladies Auxiliary.

Members must be citizens of the United States and at least 16 years of age. In applying for membership, widows who remarry and divorcees may not base eligibility on the service record of a former husband.
